Gnomon has spent twenty years selling watches that most shops will not carry: microbrands, small Swiss houses, and the occasional piece that only exists because someone in Singapore asked for it. This piece looks at how that catalogue gets chosen.

Every watch we list is one we would wear. That sounds like marketing until you see what gets turned away — the specs that read well and wear badly, the finishing that photographs better than it looks in daylight, the movement nobody can service locally.
